Description
“Katt på recept” by Syou Ishida - in Swedish
A Swedish edition of a contemporary Japanese feel-good novel with elements of absurdity, intended for adult readers learning Swedish through literature.
What happens when ordinary medicine is not enough? At the mysterious Kokoro clinic, a prescription can look very different - the patient receives... a cat.
On the fifth floor of an old building at the end of a narrow street, there is an unusual clinic for people who feel lost. Not everyone is able to find it. The way seems to open mainly to those who truly need help.
Treatment at the Kokoro clinic is just as unusual as the place itself. Instead of pills or further recommendations, the doctor prescribes cats. The animals are affectionate, funny, sometimes stubborn and demanding, and their presence gradually begins to change the lives of the people who care for them.
The book introduces several different stories: a depressed office worker, a man who feels unnecessary both at work and at home, a young girl trying to navigate relationships at school, a cynical salesman searching for emotional balance and a single mother learning how to live with loss.
Syou Ishida combines humour, absurdity and gentle fantasy with themes of loneliness, grief, burnout, feeling out of place and the need for closeness. “Katt på recept” is a light and heartwarming book, but beneath its cheerful surface are stories of people trying to find their place in the world again.
