Description
"Mera om oss i Bullerbyn" ("More About the Children of Bullerbyn") in Swedish!
A girl named Lisa narrates the adventures of herself and the other children in the village. In this part of the story, Lisa and Anna go shopping for yeast, ginger, vinegar, sewing thread, and sausage. Shopping can turn into a great adventure when you keep forgetting things! Besides, Olle now has a younger sister!
Return to the land where childhood imagination knows no bounds and relive the joyful adventures of the Bullerbyn children in Swedish.
This book is part of Astrid Lindgren’s collector’s series. Originally written for younger children, the language is relatively simple, though some archaic expressions and specific vocabulary may appear. It is an ideal read for both children and adults learning Swedish.
It is no secret that the idyllic Bullerbyn was inspired by the village of Sevetorp near Vimmerby, where the author grew up. Today, you can visit the area (perhaps some of you have already taken a photo by the town sign!).
The novel’s narrator is Lisa Erikson, and Astrid herself bore the same surname by birth. It is highly likely that she was the inspiration for the main character. As she once recalled, she had a wonderful childhood and grew up in a home filled with love and support:
"We children were used to seeing our father, at least for a moment every day, lovingly embracing our mother."
The book is published by Rabén & Sjögren, where Astrid Lindgren worked for nearly 25 years.
There is even a term called Bullerbyn Syndrome, which refers to an idealized image of Sweden, particularly popular in German-speaking countries (where Astrid is incredibly beloved). It portrays Sweden as a fairytale land with wooden houses, green forests, blonde-haired children, and always-happy adults. The term "Bullerbyn Syndrome" was even named "Word of the Month" by the Swedish Language Council!

It is no secret that the prototype for the idyllic Bullerbyn was the settlement Sevetorp, near the town of Vimmerby, where the author grew up. Today, you can explore these surroundings (perhaps some of you have already taken a photo by the town's sign). The novel’s narrator is Lisa Erikson, and Astrid herself carried that maiden name. Most likely, she was the inspiration for the main character.
As she recalled, she had a wonderful childhood and grew up in a home full of love and support: “We children were used to seeing our father, at least for a little while every day, lovingly embracing our mother.”
The book was published by Rabén & Sjögren, where Astrid Lindgren worked for nearly 25 years.
There is even the concept of the “Bullerbyn Syndrome,” referring to the image of an idealized Sweden prevalent in German-speaking countries (where Astrid is incredibly popular, even adored). It depicts Sweden as an idyll—a country of wooden houses, green forests, blond children, and always happy adults. In fact, the term “Bullerbyn Syndrome” was even named “word of the month” in the Swedish Language Council dictionary!
