Description

Alla vi barn i Bullerbyn in Swedish!

One of the most recognizable classics of Swedish children's literature by Astrid Lindgren.

This book needs little introduction. It is one of those rare school classics loved by both children and... adults! A girl named Lisa tells the story of her adventures and those of the other children living in the small village of Bullerbyn. Return to a world where children's imagination knows no limits and rediscover the adventures of the cheerful group of children from Bullerbyn.

The book is the first volume in a collector's series of Astrid Lindgren's works.

The book was originally written for younger children. The language is relatively accessible, although some slightly archaic expressions and specific vocabulary may appear. It is an excellent choice for both children and adults who are already learning Swedish.

It is no secret that the idyllic Bullerbyn was inspired by the village of Sevedstorp near Vimmerby, where the author grew up. Today, the area can still be visited - and perhaps some of you have already taken a photo by the famous village sign.

The narrator of the novel is Lisa Erikson, and Astrid herself was born with the surname Ericsson. It is therefore often suggested that the author drew on her own childhood experiences when creating the character.

As Astrid Lindgren herself recalled, she had a wonderful childhood and grew up in a loving and supportive home: “We children were used to seeing our father affectionately embrace our mother at least once every day.”

The book is published by Rabén & Sjögren , the publishing house where Astrid Lindgren worked for almost 25 years.

There is even a term known as the Bullerbyn Syndrome, referring to an idealized image of Sweden that is particularly common in German-speaking countries, where Astrid Lindgren remains exceptionally popular. It describes Sweden as an idyllic country of wooden houses, green forests, blond children and cheerful adults. The term “Bullerbyn Syndrome” was even featured as a “word of the month” by the Swedish Language Council.
