Tove Jansson was a Finnish writer, painter, illustrator, and comic artist. She made her debut at the age of 14, and a year later her comic “The Story of the Lovestruck Larvae, Kropella and Fabian” was published. Eccentric from an early age, she changed schools, dropped out of studies, and knew she wanted to become a painter.
The origins of the Moomin saga began with the creation of Snufkin in 1940. From then on, Jansson wrote numerous children’s books, novels for adults, and created hundreds of paintings. She celebrated her successes by buying herself hats.
She said she felt closest to Snufkin, as he enjoys being on his own.
