Gilla svenska B Elevbok (Student's Book) - Swedish language textbook for beginners at SFI B level

Gilla svenska B Elevbok is a Swedish language textbook for adult learners at SFI B level, corresponding approximately to CEFR A1-A2.

The textbook is adapted to the needs of adult learners. Its structure is based on a circular model, with specific strategies for achieving defined learning goals.

The textbook consists of 12 chapters covering topics relevant to adult learners who want to settle in Sweden. Students gain knowledge about Swedish everyday life, social norms, current events and practical everyday language that they can start using from the very first lesson. The material in each chapter follows a gradual progression. Each chapter forms an independent unit, so learning can begin at any point in the book. This is also useful in language schools with continuous enrolment, as well as for independent learners or anyone who wants to revise a specific part of the material.

The material in the textbook places particular emphasis on communication and pronunciation. There are also many written exercises that reinforce knowledge and develop practical language skills. At the end of the book there is a separate section reviewing grammar and summarising pronunciation rules. The course is designed so that even learners with limited previous education or those encountering Swedish for the first time can work towards their language-learning goals.

The skills are divided according to the SFI curriculum and include:

Spoken interaction and oral presentation.

Reading comprehension

Each chapter contains two main texts at different levels:

a text that introduces the topic and allows the learner to explore it further

a slightly more advanced text that provides a greater challenge and may require more independent work

Grammar in context

Each chapter contains a short explanation of the relevant grammar points. All exercises and examples are based on vocabulary practised in the chapter. In addition, there is a grammar review section at the end of the book. Together with online exercises and printable materials, learners can revisit individual topics several times to reinforce their knowledge.

Digital skills

Digital skills are practised throughout the course through tasks involving searching for information online. Learners also have access to free supplementary materials on the publisher's website. These include filmed conversations, pronunciation exercises, additional listening exercises, reading comprehension tasks and grammar and vocabulary tests.

Svenska för invandrare (SFI)

SFI is a free course offered to most adult immigrants in Sweden. A person who has a residence permit, is registered in a Swedish municipality and does not speak Swedish may be entitled to SFI. The aim of the course is to provide adult immigrants with basic knowledge of the Swedish language and Swedish society.

The courses are organised into three study paths across four different levels.
